Garden Center magazine's October 2017 issue can now be read online and as a digital edition.

In this issue's cover story, we talked with several IGCs in Houston, Texas and throughout Florida to discuss their situations in the wake the of the tropical storms that recently impacted those areas. Garden center owners and managers detailed their preparation and recovery processes in the face of the major tropical storms. We hope their stories of teamwork, perseverance and community outreach are a source of inspiration for you and your staff.

Also in this issue, we look at the differences between natives and nativars, as well as the necessity for both types of plant. "Water-wise," "drought tolerant" and other terms are also broken down and put into scientific and practical context.

Read on for info on several scientific advances in horticulture, including new pesticide developments, the implementation of virtual reality in trial gardens, water availability sensor technology and more.
