Skillins Greenhouses, which has three locations in Maine, posted this whimsical yet practical miniature garden on its Facebook page recently. Danielle Arroyo, greenhouse grower and floral designer, created the charming mini landscape after a customer requested a fairy garden with purpose.
“Fairy gardening has really taken off and I thought herbs would be a fun way to integrate the two,” Arroyo says. “You have to prune fairy gardens, and instead of throwing plant materials away, you get to cook with them.” Arroyo planted a tiny basil tree, oregano, rosemary, mint and even pansies to show the range of edibles available.
