The Register-Guard: Gray's Garden Center closes

The Eugene, Ore., business may reopen under new ownership.

Gray's Garden Center, founded in 1940 and based in Eugene, Ore., has closed, according to an article in The Register-Guard.

The store, which once operated two locations, closed in December due to financial problems about a year after owners James and Liz Kline, who took over the business before the economic downturn in 2007, filed for Chapter 11 reorganization, the Register-Guard reported.

"A judge recently ordered the case changed from a Chapter 11 reorganization to a Chapter 7 liquidation," according to the article. However, a sign on the store's front gate indicates the business will reopen Jan. 20 and that it is "closed for maintenance."

"The trustee in the bankruptcy case said that date might be optimistic but that he is hopeful a new owner will be found," the article stated.
