Going forward equals momentum. This year, in our sister publication Greenhouse Management magazine’s State of the Industry survey, just over half of respondents expect double-digit profits this year — and 42% said that’s an increase over last year. And 65% project this year’s sales to increase compared with 2023. In anticipation of another solid year, most respondents plan to increase production for 2024. Attitudes also seemed brighter with this year’s survey, as 89% of respondents revealed they were confident about the growth of the industry in 2024.
Crops and production
Growers said they grew more perennials and annuals/bedding plants this year compared with last year, while indoor foliage plants did not see as many gains in production space this year. Next year’s plans call for increased numbers in perennials and bedding plants, as well.

Profits, sales and prices
Profit projections for 2023 are something to celebrate, with 89% reporting a positive amount and 1% reporting a loss. Some 65% of growers expect sales to increase this year compared with last year.

Sustainability
Keeping the green in green industry, growers continue to care about choices they make that may have an impact on environmental issues such as reducing energy use, improving their IPM programs and reducing plastic.
