Twenty years ago, consumers were growing a wider range of perennials, trees and shrubs than they are now. As such, Garden Center Marketing & Merchandising (who you now know as Garden Center magazine) featured more of these plants, as seen here, as the market was not as heavily oriented to annuals and edibles. Among those featured in 1995 were Russian sage, Gazania, bald cypress, Chinese witch hazel and yarrow.
