Activant Solutions Inc. in Livermore, Calif., announced last week that Activant Eagle software has achieved compliance validation with the Payment Application Data Security Standard (PA-DSS) version 1.2. Trustwave, an approved Payment Application Qualified Security Assessor, tested the Eagle software and found that it met or exceeded all of the PA-DSS requirements. Activant Eagle software is the cornerstone of Activant’s suite of PCI compliance-related products and services.
Launched in 2006, the Payment Card Industry Security Standards Council (PCI SSC) was created by the five major credit card companies to improve payment account data security. The PA-DSS is the global security standard set by the PCI SSC for software vendors who develop payment applications that store, process or transmit cardholder information as part of a transaction.
The Activant Eagle system is a comprehensive point-of-sale and business management solution built for specialty retailers, including garden centers and nurseries. The PA-DSS validation of the Activant Eagle software provides these retailers confidence that the software is designed to protect customer card information and that transactions are being processed in accordance with the PCI Data Security Standards. Activant also offers retailers PCI-ready hardware, firewall and anti-virus products, and network security setup and consulting services. Activant customers have access to security information updates and news via the company’s PCI Resources website.
“Identity theft is an issue that is becoming increasingly important thanks to the recent actions of the major credit card companies,” said Bill Delaney, senior segment marketing manager at Activant. “Today's garden retailers must take the proper steps to protect their customers credit card data -- through computer firewalls, secured servers and networks and other forms of data access controls. Failure to do so puts their customers' data and their businesses at risk.”
