The American Horticultural Society is launching the AHS Lifelong Learning Certificates, intended for anyone seeking to deepen their horticultural expertise.
The organization also announced the Fall 2025 AHS LIVE series and Fall 2025 Self-Paced Online Courses.
AHS will offer Lifelong Learning Certificates in Horticulture & the Environment and in Horticultural Design & Techniques. Each certificate requires completion of two AHS Self-Paced Online Courses, five AHS LIVE programs in the learner’s chosen specialty, three AHS LIVE programs outside the learner’s specialty area, and 15 hours of community service supporting local gardens.
AHS’ Lifelong Learning Certificate allows participants to customize their journeys. Most of the programs are virtual and can be completed within a few months.
“The new certificate features in-depth horticultural learning and a flexible framework,” said Mary Hockenberry Meyer, Ph.D., an AHS Horticultural Advisory Council member who reviewed the certificate framework during the design process. “It also encourages participants to apply their knowledge for the benefit of their communities."
Registration for the Fall 2025 AHS LIVE series is open now and offers a deep dive into the world of plants and gardening. The series features hands-on workshops, expert-led talks and garden tours. Topics include orchids, garden design, topiaries and soil health.
AHS’ Fall 2025 Self-Paced Online Courses, Gardening in America and Ecological Gardening, are now open for registration. Each course, accessible 24/7 for five months, features seven modules with AHS-produced texts, videos, articles, activities and resource recommendations. Access to the online courses is available until Feb. 15, 2026.
“AHS’ Lifelong Learning programs are open and accessible to all,” said AHS President and CEO Suzanne Laporte. “They are unique opportunities to learn from horticultural experts and connect with fellow plant enthusiasts within your region and across the country.”
