U.S. retailers add 29,000 jobs in April

Bureau of Labor Statistics reports that out of 165,000 jobs created in April, nearly 30,000 were in the retail sector.

About 29,000 of the 165,000 new jobs created in April were at retail companies, including 14,800 positions added at general merchandise retailers, according to a report released May 3 by the Bureau of Labor Statistics, the National Retail Federation reported. The bureau also revealed that the unemployment rate dropped to a four-year low of 7.5 percent.

"Today's solid employment news combined with positive March revisions may bode well for the broader economy and portend steady retail sales in April," NRF Chief Economist Jack Kleinhenz said.
