In an effort to help bright and promising young students fulfill their dreams of entering careers in the arboriculture industry, Arborjet announced the launch of its inaugural “Taking Root” Scholarship Program. Ten graduating high school seniors will each receive a $1,000 scholarship to pursue full-time studies in horticulture, forestry, plant sciences, entomology, environmental science or a related major at an accredited two-year or four-year college.
Career opportunities in the industry continue to grow, with the Bureau of Labor Statistics predicting 18 percent growth in the arboriculture field between 2013 and 2018. Tree care industry professionals are employed by private companies, utilities, municipalities, universities and the federal government.
To be eligible for the “Taking Root” Scholarship Program, applicants must be graduating U.S. high school seniors who plan to major in a forestry course of study or related major for the entire 2014-15 academic year. Interested students and educators can find out more about the scholarship by visiting Arborjet.com and applying directly at sms.scholarshipamerica.org/arborjet/index.html. The application deadline is June 30, 2014.
