Free Florida backyard fruit tree class

Speakers to cover tricks of the trade


The University of Florida – IFAS Extension is hosting a backyard fruit tree management workshop and tasting from 9 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. July 28 at Collier County University of Florida/IFAS Extension.

The free class covers mango, grumichama, jaboticoba, avocado and more. Speakers will cover pests, cultural practices and tricks of the trade to successfully grow different types of fruit. There will be fresh fruit samples and fruit trees available from Hopkins Tropical Fruit Nursery.

Schedule:

9 – 9:50 a.m.: Growing mangoes for your dooryard and fruit sampling with mango epicureans David and Jenny Burd of Friendly Burd Tree Service

9:50 – 10:15 a.m.: Question and answer session

10:15 – 11:30 a.m.: Tropical fruit for South Florida with Chris Rollins, manager of Homestead Fruit & Spice Park

11:30 a.m. – 12:30 p.m.: Questions and answers and more fresh fruit sampling
