The excitement for home vegetable gardening was in the air in Chicago on May 13, as thousands of early-morning commuters received a free tomato plant from Burpee Home Gardens. With the frost-free date passed, Burpee told Chicagoans to get out and grow, and kicked off the vegetable-growing season by giving away over 2,000 plants in about 30 minutes.
While in the city, members of the Burpee Home Gardens team generated enthusiasm for homegrown vegetables, and encouraged passersby to “get their garden on” this year. Each Burpee plant included information on the new mobile gardening tool, the Burpee Garden Coach, and directed consumers where to find more Burpee Home Gardens plants in stores this season.
“Nothing beats the taste of homegrown vegetables, and with spring finally arriving in Chicago, we’re happy to kick-start the season in our hometown with this exciting giveaway,” said Carolyn Dixon, sales manager for Burpee Home Gardens. “With the level of excitement we saw today, garden centers will be filled with customers clamoring for Burpee vegetables! Burpee is ready to inspire confidence and offer the resources home gardeners need to succeed and come back for more.”
