Princess Bride hydrangea is a hybrid with an interesting form of lacecap flowers that bloom up and down each stem (pictured). Hardy in Zones 7b-10, it blooms from spring through fall.

Need to beef up your shrub selections? PDSI is releasing three new lonicera, which are excellent boxwood alternatives. The Garden Clouds series has three new selections: Copper Glow (glossy, small leaves with copper orange new growth); Green Breeze (a vibrant green); and Purple Storm (dark green foliage with purple new growth). All three are hardy in Zones 6-9 and grow 2-3 feet tall and wide.
Holly Red Sky offers the columnar habit but with red new growth. Grows to 8 feet tall and works in light shade to full sun. Hardy in Zones 6-9.
