As history goes, Ray Wiegand's Nursery & Garden Center in Macomb Township, Mich., might have the richest legacy in all of Garden Center Land. The company's roots go all the way back to the early 1860s, when Francis Wiegand purchased a small farm in Warren, Mich., to start a family commercial enterprise that has spanned parts of three centuries and been passed among four generations of Wiegands, each adding enhancements to the business along the way.
Today's resume bullet point -- actually, a cannon ball -- is the fact that more than 30 of the company's employees are Michigan Certified Nursery professionals, thus ensuring that customers receive valuable information about the care and nurturing of plants from knowledgeable sales associates.
With this kind of track record -- and with this kind of attention to customer service -- Ray Wiegand's Nursery & Garden Center has been able to grow its family in a different way, as customer after customer has joined the fold over the years, each recognizing that the company not only is "in it for the long haul'' but in it for them.
And nothing says "Cha-ching!" for a company quite like those two traits.
