Fun fact to know and share: Sloat Garden Centers, with nine locations in the Danville, Calif., area, comprise the largest independent pottery importer in the U.S., with strong ties to many other independent garden chains that purchase their pottery through Sloat.
Owner Dave Straus, who started at Sloat in 1968, has not only found his niche -- but has scratched it with fervor. “Obviously I love plants and gardening," he says. "But over the years, the pottery part is what I’ve enjoyed the most. It gave me the opportunity to travel, design product, pick new glaze colors and work with many different factories in many different countries. Bringing this beautiful pottery to our customers is a joy in itself."
It's also the source of more than a little "Cha-ching!," and that, as we all know, can be a joy in itself, as well.
