If you have ever been to Tualatin, Ore., and didn't take the time to pay The Garden Corner a visit, shame on you. This veritable amusement park for gardeners is, to paraphrase a marketing pitch we all know and love, "the most interesting garden center in the world."
And while I don't always shop for inspiration in the garden center world, when I do, I prefer The Garden Corner.
Owner Jonn Karsseboom and his clever and affable staff have crafted a literal trail that winds through the grounds, taking customers to an adventure land, the likes of which they've never seen in this market. Each plant, each gift, each apparel item, each proverbial "what have you" has inspiration written all over it. If shopping should be fun -- and it should be, especially during these times of economic struggle and retail "same old, same old" -- shopping The Garden Corner's is about as much fun as it gets.
Karsseboom says every staffer is involved in creating the experience, contributing ideas that routinely are converted into displays or customer service perks. The process starts with a simple question -- what if? -- and the gang goes from there.
We higly recommend that you follow their lead. It definitely leads to "Cha-ching!"
