Think you've got a location ... er ... issue? As someone once told Jonn Karsseboom, owner of The Garden Corner in Tualatin, Ore., "to find us you would have to be completely lost first."
Surrounded on three sides by residential areas and on a fourth by an industrial park -- for the record, not the way urban planners described future development to Karsseboom -- The Garden Corner quickly inherited a huge crop of lemons. So Karsseboom and his staff got together and started churning a big batch of lemonade -- by crafting what might be the first amusement for gardeners.
Each journey at The Garden Corner – every visit is a literal journey – starts on a mostly uncovered trail that winds throughout the premises, providing visitors with sights and sounds presented in entirely fresh ways and contexts.
The plants, the gifts, the apparel items, the proverbial “what have you” dotting the snaking pathway all suddenly morph from inventory into ideas. And then ideas transform into sales.
Throw in a marketing campaign that features some of the most innovative videos in the industry, and you get one great shopping experience. And Jonn gets to hear one great "Cha-ching!" after another.
