There are any number of reasons why people visit the Petitti Garden Center locations in the Cleveland, Ohio, area. One that might -- but shouldn't -- get lost in the shuffle is the attention to detail the staff pays even before the doors open for spring.
"There is so much to do in the spring that we spend months in preparation," said Roger Bolger, a buyer for the company, "Our plan is to get everything in place beforehand so that we can concentrate on customers during our busy season."
"Everything" includes product receiving (which starts in December), marketing (all planned by the end of January), product-knowledge training (February), interior merchandising (done by March 1), and exterior merchandising (wrapped up by April 1).
"The months of April, May and June are just about executing the plans we made, and keeping the store stocked with fresh plants," Bolger said. And, almost definitely, with keeping up with all the Cha-ching!
