Southwood Nursery in Tulsa, Okla., got its customers geared up for spring with a "Plant Your Own Hanging Basket" event held last month. To kick off the session, customers listened to a quick description of the Proven Winners plants making up the day's design palette. Participants then made their selections and potted up their hanging baskets.
So, was the day a success? Southwood's Lauren Myer certainly gave it a big, green thumb's up. "The event went great, and we ended up having a pretty good turnout," she said. "From what I could tell, all the participants had a good time and are looking forward to visiting their baskets as they grow."
Therein lies the key to this project -- everyone who participated will be back to check the progress of their baskets. And then they'll be back again. And again. And again ...
And they'll likely buy something else at the garden center each time they return. Cha-ching!
