Linder's Garden Center in St. Paul, Minn., turned 100 last year. One of the reasons the venerable business has been ... well ... a venerable business is its management team's ability to meet customer needs and expectations.
To wit: The way Linder's staff marries its plant selection with the folks who purchase plants. "We think being a grower-retailer gives us a better perspective on what customers want," said owner Lill Linder. "We grow all our own bedding plants. We sit down and analyze everything we grow -- everything we have in our combo planters. What sold well? What did we have left over? We spend a lot of time looking at trends that are coming up. I think that makes a difference."
About a century's worth of difference, you might say. That's a whole lot of Cha-ching!
