In an effort to think "outside the box," County Line Nursery in Harleysville, Pa., thought "inside the box," introducing a jewelry department last year.
The result? A lot of customers who didn't want to shop at "Mom's" garden center decided to shop at County Line. "We knew that if we wanted to keep young customers coming back we had to speak their language," said County Line's Sara Mundie. "The jewelry was a big hit with this group. Plus, jewelry had a great price point."
As tempting as it is to say that County Line found a diamond in the rough, we'd prefer to say the garden center management team found something even more important: a great way to add some Cha-ching!
