Add DeWayne's to the growing list of conventional garden centers expanding their inventory to include unconventional personal items.
The Selma, N.C., retailer recently opened a boutique that features handbags, jewelry and fashion apparel items -- and female-friendly brands such as Vera Bradley, Ming Wang, Abbie Mags, Brighton, Croks, Seven Jeans, Alegria and Tribal.
The new venture is based on a sound premise: Women comprise the biggest demographic of garden center shoppers, so it makes sense to offer items women would want to buy.
In some circles, that's called marketing genius. We, of course, prefer the term "Cha-ching!"
Looking for a Cha-ching! you might have missed? Go to the search box and type Cha-ching! Items are listed by date.
