Lynne Weber and Joan Kimmel own the Urban Gardener in Pittsburgh, Pa. They also pretty much own the market. One big reason is the fact that what the Urban Gardener provides perfectly matches what the urban gardeners in the region need and want.
"Because most urban yards are smaller than suburban ones, we carry shrubs and trees that can do double duty, with multiple-season interest," Weber said. "We focus on shade gardens and carry an extensive collection of shade plants."
PLUS ... Weber and Kimmel buy all of their green goods and Christmas trees within a 150-mile radius to ensure their hardiness to the region.
The bottom line: the Urban Gardener markets not just trees but nearly perfect customer service, in the most literal of terms. The other bottom line: Cha-ching!
