Nalls Produce, a garden center and produce store in Franconia, Va., recently donated more than 300 assorted cucumber, tomato and squash plants to the Lorton Community Action Center to help encourage families in the region to grow their own produce this summer.
The philanthropic gesture should pay dividends to all parties involved. The families who take advantage of the program will no doubt see a reduction on grocery bills and fuel costs -- plus, having a garden provides families time to bond over something they have nurtured from a small seedling into a fruit-bearing large plant.
For the community center, it's another chance to help improve the lives of underprivileged families and children in the Lorton area. And, of course, for Nalls Produce, it's an opportunity to positively reinforce the image of a business that carries plants throughout the year -- and that tries to make a difference in its region by hosting seasonally-themed services, including a play center for children in the fall and holiday wreaths in the winter months.
One description would be "win/win/win." Another would be "Cha-ching!"
