Man’s best friend meets earth’s best friends at Chalet this season, as Pet Essentials for Chalet offers green products for reducing pets’ carbon “pawprint” and sponsors a special pet adoption day.
Chalet will host Adopt-A-Pet in its Pet Essentials department on Saturday, June 12 from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. During the event, dogs and cats from Heartland Animal Shelter and Save-a-Pet local shelters in the Wilmette, Ill., area will be on hand – or paw, as it may be – for people to simply pet or adopt and bring into their homes and families.
Those who adopt a pet that day will also receive a $50 gift certificate toward their first pet purchase at Chalet’s Pet Essentials. All shoppers who visit Chalet that day can receive coupons and samples from WellPet and from Natura/California Natural and Innova.
Meanwhile, throughout the year, pet owners can also learn how to reduce the carbon “pawprint” of all of their four-legged friends through Chalet’s expanded offering of earth-friendly pet products.
Examples of products that are both pet-friendly and earth-friendly include:
• West Paw Designs’ Zogoflex toys, which are recyclable and create virtually no waste during the manufacturing process. They’re also made in the USA, which reduces energy costs. Prices range from $9.99 to $14.99. Chalet also carries West Paw’s Floppy Disk made of recycled plastic bottles, $12.99.
• Organic pet food such as Natural Planet Organics made in Minnesota. Prices range from $12.99 to $48.99 for dog food, and from $8.99 to 19.99 for cat food, depending on the bag size.
• Organic treats made locally. Clancy’s Cookies from Evanston, Ill. are $5.99 each, and Daisy’s Delights from Buffalo Grove, Ill., are $8.99 each.
• 100 percent biodegradable bags made from cornstarch by Poop Bags, Chicago. They’re $7.99 for 50 bags.
• Yesterday’s News cat litter products, at $3.99 to $18.99 for various size bags. Made by Purina.
