Colonial Gardens launches ‘Colonial Kids Club’

Colonial Gardens has announced the launch of its “Colonial Kids Club,” which will focus on adding educational content for parents and teachers now charged with homeschooling their children during the COVID-19 pandemic. “Colonial Kids Club” kicked-off this week with its first in-home educational project, a ‘Learning Garden.’

Designed to partner with teachers and parents, the ‘Learning Garden’ will serve as a hands-on way to learn about science through gardening and other fun activities. Twenty-four weekly videos feature Colonial’s Botanical Brian and Farmer Bryn discussing maintenance activities and other information regarding plants, the benefits of growing a garden, and how these gardening skills can be taken to the next level.

The ‘Learning Garden’ comes in a kit containing everything needed to grow two different types of container gardens — one to grow vegetables including lettuce, radishes, and spinach and another to grow flowers and food for pollinators. In the final weeks of the program, the pollinator garden will be completely eaten by caterpillars and the children will have several chrysalises that they can watch the butterflies emerge from in the fall.

“It’s unbelievable how positive the response has been since we launched this program. I’m so proud to see the community coming together to support kids, teachers, parents, and nature,” said Tory Schwope, owner of Colonial Gardens. “It is something that kids of all ages will enjoy, and it also provides a learning and enrichment opportunity.”
