The Dallas Arboretum installed a WaterWise demonstration bed to prove to naysayers that low-water-use gardens “can be beautiful and colorful,” said Jimmy Turner, director of research at the arboretum. The garden is the backdrop to seven kiosks explaining the seven basic principles of landscape water conservation: planning and design; soil analysis; practical turf areas; appropriate plant selection; efficient irrigation; use of mulches; and appropriate maintenance. The arboretum partnered with Texas Nursery & Landscape Association Region IV to plant the demonstration garden.
