Digging In Association, a professional organization for container garden designers, in collaboration with Crescent Garden, a container gardening provider, introduced the Crescent Cup Award at the Northwest Flower & Garden Festival in February to celebrate excellence in container gardening.

This inaugural award recognizes a show garden that seamlessly integrates containers into its overall design while demonstrating exceptional artistry, horticultural expertise and innovative approaches to small-space gardening.

Developed by Digging In Association — which was founded in 2017 and supports more than 230 members across the U.S. and Canada — in partnership with NWFGF, the Crescent Cup Award criteria evaluate gardens on pot selection, design principles, innovation, practicality, attention to detail and cultural relevance. Crescent Garden, which was founded in 1999, is the award’s sponsor.

“Our goal was to create an award that not only highlights exceptional artistry, creativity and horticultural excellence but also offers inspiration for everyday gardeners,” said Cindy Funes from Digging In Association. “By partnering with Crescent Garden for this award, we’re reinforcing the importance of thoughtful container design and celebrating innovation in shaping beautiful, functional and sustainable outdoor spaces.”

The inaugural Crescent Cup winner is Ma Petite Gardens in Snohomish, Washington, with a display featuring an intentional fun color palate that was fresh and on-trend; unusual and interesting plant combinations; and the execution of mixing shapes, sizes and styles of planters.

The Crescent Cup Award is expected to be awarded at NWFGF and other flower and garden shows nationally and internationally.
