Garden Centers of America, a non-profit national trade association of independent garden centers, announced that four new directors have been elected to the board. Mark Bigej of Al’s Garden Center in Woodburn, Ore., joins the board as a new Garden Center Director to serve a three-year term. New Associate Member Directors are John Johnston, Commerce Corporation; Jeff Morey, The IGC Show and Faith Savage, Syngenta.
“We are thrilled to have these individuals join our board of directors,” said David Williams, Garden Centers of America president. “Each of these individuals has a tremendous retail knowledge and poses outstanding leadership skills. They will be a great addition to our current board as we identify more services GCA can provide to help our members remain competitive in today’s business world. We are looking forward to the contributions and service of these individuals as new GCA Board members.”
In addition, GCA officers have been elected for a second term. These include:
President: David Williams of Williams Nursery, Westfield, N.J.
Vice President: Gino Pitera of Gertens, Inver Grove Heights, Minn.
Treasurer: Kris Shepard of Alsip Home and Nursery, Frankfort, Ill.
Past President: Jim Feeney of Feeney’s Nursery in Feasterville, Pa.
Williams said: “I am truly honored to continue my service to Garden Centers of America as the 2011 president. We have a great organization that focuses totally on retail garden centers. I look forward to continuing our work for the betterment of the independent garden center industry this year.”
