After 70 years of business, Gilson Gardens in Perry, Ohio, will be closing its doors, according to The News-Herald.
The family-owned company was founded in 1947 with a single greenhouse and a roadside stand offering bare-root perennials and filed-grown shrubs. Today, it has up to 30 employees and three farms with more than 35 acres in production, the company’s website says.
“At the end of June, our plan is to close retail,” Mark Gilson told The News-Herald. “We may possibly reopen for a couple weeks in September, that’s our retail garden center. Our wholesale nursery will operate at least through September, although all our properties are listed for sale right now. Over the next couple months, we will continue to downsize our wholesale nursery, two-thirds of our operation."
