Since its opening in 2001, Gary's Gardens in Severna Park, Md., has more than tripled its profitability. Owners Gary and Mary Blondell attribute much of their success to implementing sound, proven principles of business management such as smartly managing their inventory and setting clear goals for themselves and their staff. Throughout their journey, Gary and Mary have received instruction and guidance through ANLA's Garden Center University (GCU) program, understanding and adopting 'big business' discipline and practices and applying them to their small garden center. The dynamic duo continually invests in traveling in order to learn firsthand from other garden centers, and have always placed great value on the importance of sharing, learning and networking with their peers.
Join Garden Center Magazine's Sarah Martinez, GCU Professor Ian Baldwin, Gary Blondell and Mary Blondell as they discuss how Gary's Gardens transformed from a small, leased one-acre gravel lot into an extremely successful and profitable retail garden center. Learn how Gary and Mary leveraged their hard work, experience, and risk into much better returns - while still having fun!
Ian, Gary, Mary and ANLA staff will also briefly discuss their participation in ANLA's Garden Center University and answer any questions about logistics and registration for the next GCU class which begins January 30-31, 2010 in Louisville, Ky.
