Inspectors find chrysanthemum white rust in Vancouver, British Columbia

Canadian Food Inspection Agency confirmed the presence of chrysanthemum white rust (Puccinia horiana P. Henn.), in garden mums at a floral shop in Vancouver, British Columbia, last fall.

Traceback activities identified the production facility that was the source of the infected plants. The facility was placed under regulatory control and approximately 800 plants were disposed of according to CFIA Chrysanthemum White Rust Eradication Protocol.

No other commercial production facilities were identified with infected material. Retail establishments that may have received infected plants from the production facility were inspected and eradication measures were taken as required by the Eradication Protocol.

North American Plant Protection Organization reports chrysanthemum white rust as a pest of quarantine significance for Canada.
