This summer, rose grower Jackson & Perkins held its first naming contest in decades — the 2025 Rose Naming Content — and invited gardeners nationwide to submit names for the company’s newest rose.
The company received 4,753 submissions, with many highlighting the rose’s ruffled golden petals. Ideas included Golden Petticoat Ruffles, Sunset Ruffles and Apricot Royal Ruffle.
"We were blown away by the massive interest this contest generated," said Kelly Funk, president of Jackson & Perkins. "To see nearly 5,000 people take the time to share their creativity and passion speaks to the enduring love people have for roses and the Jackson & Perkins brand."
The judging panel selected Adriana C. of Valley Village, California, who submitted "Ruffled Romance," as the winner.
"I was thrilled to learn that Ruffled Romance was selected," she said. “The rose’s golden, peach and blush petals reminded me of a sunset painted with love and warmth. I wanted the name to capture that romance and joy, and I believe this rose will bring that same feeling to gardeners everywhere."
As the grand prize, Adriana will receive the first official Ruffled Romance rose. Gardeners can pre-order the rose now; it will ship in spring 2026.
