FREDERICK, Md. – NaturaLawn of America launched its new retail brand-the Natural Alternative Lawn Care System, designed to provide better efficacy and health benefits for their customers, families and pets.
The Do-It-Yourself Natural Alternative line consists of five applications which meets and exceeds even the new fertilizer regulations passed in Pennsylvania, Delaware, New Jersey, Virginia, Maryland, West Virginia and the District of Columbia, the company said. These regulations are part of the national Chesapeake Bay mandate to reduce nitrogen and phosphorus nutrients.
“We took the independent retailer’s perspective into consideration and are selling our product through garden centers and hardware stores,” NaturaLawn of America Director of Retail Operations Dee Merica said.
The retail line was introduced in fall 2011 when restoration work for the Chesapeake Bay Program’s “milestones” began. These “milestones,” or two-year, short-term goals have helped Maryland, Pennsylvania and Virginia meet their respective state goals for reducing pollution in the Bay by decreasing 6.9 million pounds of nitrogen and over 463 tons of phosphorus from running into the Bay.
Natural Alternative products are now being shipped to independent garden centers for the spring 2012 season.
"Several years ago, before it was mandated, we were the nation's first lawn care company to launch a phosphorus-free fertilizer program in the United States,” NaturaLawn of America President and Founder Philip Catron said. “We readily responded to the concerns many communities expressed regarding excessive amounts of phosphorus entering the waterways.
"NaturaLawn of America develops alternative products and services to help protect and restore the clean flows of our rivers and the natural waters of our ponds, lakes and wetlands and takes an active part in protecting coastal habitats," Catron said. “We believe there is a better, safer way to do lawn care.”
