The digital edition of Garden Center magazine's March 2016 issue is now available here.
In the March cover story, we share the experiences of Greenbrier Nurseries, a grower-retailer based in Virginia and West Virginia. When owner Jim Monroe saw a declining demand for ornamental shrubs and container stock, he decided to expand into produce and work closely with other local produce growers to give his customers the variety of edibles they wanted. To better market and move produce, he established a CSA (community supported agriculture) and a farmers market, and the results are impressive.
This month, we also looked into how to pick suitable plant species for local landscapes and ecosystems, the latest trends in container design, strategies for gathering information about consumers and tips to help customers have more bird-feeding success.
We also feature an array of unique industry perspectives, including a look at why Snapchat may be a useful marketing tool for garden center retailers, ideas for communicating clearly to employees of all ages, visual statistics on the true impact of good customer service and more.
