Forty-two acres of land in Muttontown that was going to be developed for housing or commerce was instead transformed into a new garden center that opens next week.
The land, located at 6050 Northern Boulevard, was the former location of Martin Viette Nursery. Steven Dubner purchased the land in January and transformed it into Heritage Farm & Garden. The business has been renovating, procuring products and hiring employees in preparation for its grand opening on Wednesday, April 5.

Michael Ireland, former co-president of Martin Viette Nurseries, did not respond to multiple requests for comment after Garden Center magazine received word of the store's closing in December 2016.
