Matterhorn Nursery in Spring Valley, N.Y, has filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection, according to a report on LoHud.com.
Matt and Ronnie Horn, the owners of the 38-acre New Hempstead nursery , filed for the reorganization on Sept. 10 in U.S. Bankruptcy Court for the Southern District of New York after the Town of Ramapo pulled out of a deal to purchase 15 acres of unused land from the Horns. The Horns planned to use the sale proceeds to provide cash flow as they made long-planned renovations to the nursery.
"I don't want people to get the wrong idea — that we're going out of business," Ronnie Horn said Friday. "We're not going anywhere. We grew up here. We love it here. We would like to continue another 30 or 40 years here."
No employees have been laid off, and visitors will see the same nursery they've always seen, she said.
