From Knox News
Mayo Garden Center is celebrating its 140th anniversary in 2018 and is considered to be the oldest business in Knoxville, Tennessee.
The firm was first opened in 1878 by D.R. Mayo as a seed store. Elizabeth Mayo Cox, a fifth-genreation family member and one of the family members helping run the business now, said they love the role their firm has played in the lives of generations of Knoxville residents.
“We have customers who grew up with their grandparents shopping here,” she recalled. “And with our Christmas tree business, we have people who come in here every year and take pictures.
“It is nice to be part of their traditions.”
