Moana Nursery has put together its Fall 2010 seminar schedule. All seminars are free and held at Moana Nursery, 1190 W. Moana Lane in Reno, Nev., in the company's Landscape and Design Center.
Seminars begin promptly at 10 a.m. and last one hour. Please arrive 15 minutes early, as seating is limited to 60 and is first-come, first-served. The following classes are scheduled:
Sept. 11 – Let’s Get Ready for Fall!
Jon Bruyn, Moana Nursery Plant Doctor and Certified Arborist
Jon will discuss fall landscape preparation, fertilizing and much more!
Sept. 18 – Growing a Fall Vegetable Garden
Michelle Deetken, Expert Gardener & Nutritionist
Learn how to create a fall vegetable garden with spinach, cabbage & many other vegetables.
Sept. 25 – Orchid Workshop
Alan Koch, Gold Country Orchids
Alan owns Gold Country Orchids, and is an internationally known speaker, author and expert in the Cattleya Alliance. He will discuss the ABC’s of orchid growing and care, including watering, nutrition, repotting and how to boost flowering. Bring your plants from home and Alan will answer your specific questions from 11a.m.-noon.
Oct. 2 – Winterizing Roses
Charlene Oakes, Master Gardener
Charlene will provide expert tips and techniques on preparing your roses for the winter; including NOT pruning before winter, minimizing damage, watering routines and winter mulching.
Oct. 9 – Creating a Fall Bird Sanctuary
Alan Gubanich, Vice President, Lahontan Audubon Society
Fall is a great time to set up bird feeders. It allows the winter dwellers to get familiar with them before bad weather, and gives migratory birds much needed nutrition for their travels. You’ll learn about plants that provide shelter, food sources, how to keep a consistent source of water and how to identify the many species that will show up in your yard.
Oct. 16 – Bulbs – Fall planting for Spring Color
Michelle Deetken, Expert Gardener and Nutritionist
Learn how to landscape your yard like a pro with bulbs. Michelle will provide expert tips on how and when to plant your spring flowering bulbs, plus landscaping suggestions.
Oct. 23 – Winterizing the Water Garden
Scott Gescheider, Moana Landscape Division Manager, and Trisha Strouse, Water Features Manager
Winter is just around the corner. Moana Water Features teammates will provide tips to keep your pond healthy, the fish safe and the plants resting until the spring thaw.
