Monrovia, headquartered in Visalia, Calif., was honored last month for its outstanding safety record by the California Trucking Association (CTA) with a Fleet Safety Award, marking the third year in a row the company has received this designation.
According to Lee Zwahlen, head of shipping, Monrovia has one of the largest privately operated fleets of any nursery in the U.S., with 17 trucks and 50 trailers. “From our 1,100-acre Visalia and Venice Hills nurseries, we delivered 2,400 trailer loads of Monrovia plants with an estimated 12,000 deliveries last year.”
Safety professionals from the CTA Safety Staff review accident statistics of the top contenders and audit their safety programs. The awards program judges companies on issues such as accident frequency, personnel and hiring systems, documented safety policies and procedures, driver-safety training, internal accident handling procedures, and participation in the association’s safety activities.
“While Monrovia is often recognized for its high quality plants, it is nice to be acknowledged for our transportation and the great job we do delivering plants,” said Brian Brower, local fleet operations.
California Trucking Association represent the owners of trucking companies throughout the State that advocate sound transportation policies to all levels of government, and work to maintain a safe, environmentally responsible and efficient California transportation goods movement system.
