National Retail Federation contest offers big payoff

Best video earns the winning retail operation $25,000

Supermarkets saw a boost for those feeding friends and family for the big game between the Patriots and the Giants. But, we all know that one of the more-anticipated events Sunday was the commercials.Companies spend untold amounts of money in the race for the best, funniest or most memorable commercial each year.

Jonathan Friedman, winner of the Doritos video contest, spent $20.

Friedman purchased dog biscuits, a cat collar and a bag of Doritos for his video entry, “Man’s Best Friend.” He and 6,000 others entered the Doritos video contest, with the top five winning a trip to Super Bowl XLVI. His creativity and patience with his subject (his pet dog) made his video stand out above other contestants and arguably created one of 2012's better Super Bowl commercials.

The National Retail Federation is also on the lookout for inventive and creative ideas for its video contest, highlighting the importance of the retail industry and the diversity of careers in America. Retail is a driving force for the U.S. economy as we saw this past weekend. NRF is looking for video submissions highlighting the importance of the retail industry. The contest is open to anyone who touches the retail industry, from content creators to product designers.

Participants may submit videos beginning in early March for a chance to win $25,000 and a trip to Washington, D.C., where the winner will screen his or her video to thousands of retailers at NRF’s Washington Leadership Conference.

The sky’s the limit for creative videos, and, as we can see from Friedman's example, can be achieved quite easily with the right story and the right passion. Details on the contest can be found at the NRF contest website.
