Nymphaea ‘Texas Dawn’ is the first water lily to show a pink hue on its yellow petals. Flowers are typically 6-8 inches in diameter and are held well above the water’s surface. Flowers have a lemon fragrance.
The plant also features 8-inch dark-green leaves mottled with purple spots that spread 3-5 feet. ‘Texas Dawn’ grows best in full sun but will tolerate some light shade. It is hardy to USDA Hardiness Zone 4.
‘Texas Dawn’ received the International Water Lily Society’s American Award in 1990. It was named a 2007 plant of the year by the International Waterlily and Water Gardening Society.
The plant was bred by Ken Landon of San Angelo, Texas. Landon also founded the International Waterlily Preservation Repository. The organization collects rare and endangered water lilies and distributes seeds.
