Oberland Agriscience, has introduced Oberland BSFL frass, an organic and sustainable fertilizer and soil amendment derived from black soldier fly larvae farming.
The frass contains organic matter and naturally occurring chitin — a compound found in insect exoskeletons. Chitin has been shown to promote beneficial microbes and support plant immune responses, contributing to increased plant resilience.
Certified for organic use in both the U.S. (OMRI-listed) and Canada (Ecocert), Oberland’s BSFL frass offers a balanced 3-3-2 NPK and provides slow-release nutrients for consistent plant health. It enhances root development, nutrient uptake and soil structure, while supporting beneficial microbial activity and water-retention capacity, according to Oberland, with these attributes making it a sustainable input for greenhouse growers, substrate blenders and distributors focused on healthier soils. Oberland BSFL frass is suitable for both organic and conventional systems.
“Restoring soil health and enhancing climate resilience are key to securing the future of agriculture,” said Dr. Greg Wanger, founder and CEO of Oberland Agriscience. “Incorporating Oberland’s 100% BSFL frass can help reduce reliance on conventional chemical fertilizers. Over time, this approach may contribute to healthier soils, more resilient crops and ultimately healthier harvest yields for our communities.”
Independent greenhouse trials have shown promising outcomes in crop development and soil performance when using Oberland BSFL frass.
Detailed trial information and results can be found here:
Oberland BSFL frass is available in pellet form and suitable for large-scale farming and industrial agriculture, greenhouse operations, vineyards and orchards, lawns, turf & landscaping and home gardens & houseplants.
Growers and substrate blenders are invited to test Oberland BSFL frass in their production systems. To request a sample, call 902-701-3138 or email sales@oberlandagriscience.com.
