Phygelius Croftway series

Have I mentioned yet that I love unusual, freaky-looking flowers and plants?

PlantHaven’s Phygelius Croftway series fits my funky wish list to a T and also is a boon for gardeners and retailers. Series members are low maintenance with a long shelflife. (Not to mention they are fairly disease resistant, too.)

Four colors make up the series. Coral Princess (‘Crocorpri’) is salmon. Snow Queen (‘Crosnoque’) is pure white. Yellow Sovereign (‘Croyelsov’) has creamy-yellow flowers. Purple Prince (‘Cropurpri’) has vibrant violet blossoms.

Plants are hardy to USDA Hardiness Zone 7 at least. They have shown heat tolerance in the Dallas area, too.

Skagit Gardens , a licensed propagator, recommends a pinch early in production to produce better branching and a more compact finished plant. Plants can be grown in greenhouses in winter.

The series shouldn’t be grown in growing media or soils with a high nitrogen starter charge. High temperatures should also be avoided. Monitor root development and fertility levels early in production to avoid excess salts or root problems.
