Loxley, Ala.—Plant Development Services’ brands, Encore Azalea and the Southern Living Plant Collection, contributed several plants towards the development and expansion of the Bamboo Farm and Coastal Gardens in Savannah, Ga. In partnership with the Southeastern Camellia Society, plants are on public display at the Judge Arthur Solomon Camellia Trail.
The Bamboo Farm and Coastal Gardens has transitioned over the years from a United States Department of Agriculture experimental station to part of the University of Georgia Cooperative Extension program. UGA, the Southeastern Camellia Society, the Friends of Coastal Gardens and Plant Development Services are collaborating in an effort to make the Bamboo Farm and Coastal Gardens a premier destination in Savannah. It currently hosts the largest collection of Bamboo Species available to the public in America and is home of the Judge Arthur Solomon Camellia Trail, a celebration of the beauty and diversity of camellias in the landscape.
Supporters of the Judge Arthur Solomon Camellia Trail are working to establish it as one of the leading camellia collections in a public garden. In reference to Plant Development Services’ recent involvement, Gene Philips, president of the Southeastern Camellia Society, said, “We are proud to partner with Encore Azalea and the Southern Living Plant Collection because these two wonderful plant collections offer the best of complimentary plants for our unique camellia collection.”
Phillips added that he has “hope that more Encore Azaleas and the Southern Living Plant Collection shrubs will be added as the many new gardens at the Bamboo Farm & Coastal Gardens are completed.”
