Help your customers control algae in their ponds. Dealing with pond algae is the worst part of pond maintenance for most. Pond algae is one of the most frustrating parts of being a pond owner.
Fortunately, there are ways to manage the algae growth so your customers can spend more time enjoying their ponds instead of fighting them.
There are thousands of different algae species that could be growing in a pond at any given time. The main focus should be to keep algae growth to a minimum so it does not clog the pond filter.
Here are some tips you can give customers to help them manage the growth of algae in their ponds:
• Construct a border around the pond that will prevent the water in their yards from running into the water garden.
• Purchase a pond aerator to create movement in the pond. This will help create a healthier environment for fish and prevent algae growth.
• If the pond is not in a shady location, install pond plants to help keep the surface of the water out of direct sunlight.
• Avoid over-feeding fish. What they do not eat will eventually decay and contribute to algae production.
• Regularly clean the pond filter. Clogged filters can promote bacteria and algae growth.
• Use a pond skimmer to regularly clean debris from the surface of the pond.
• As a last resort, algaecides can help kill algae in ponds. It’s important to be careful with these chemicals, as they can harm the other life in the pond.
By staying one step ahead, you can help your customers prevent their ponds from falling victim to algae-growth.
