The North American Water Garden Society (NAWGS) encourages contractors to participate in its Ponds for Kids program. This cooperative project brings together pond professionals and schools or other kid-friendly organizations. Participants install a pond that can serve as an outdoor learning environment.
NAWGS offers planning and activity guides for the project online. The planning guide provides contractors and schools a step-by-step process for launching the program. The activity guide serves as a resource for educators.
Schools and organizations are responsible for raising $2,000-$3,000 to cover the cost of materials. Contractors donate their time and help handle logistics. Kids get hands-on experience in constructing the pond.
