Johnson’s Garden Center is celebrating its 50th year in business, 13WMAZ.com reported. Eighty-one-year-old old Florrie Johnson says she opened Johnson's Garden Center in October 1959 and continues to work every day.

Nevada
A 318-pound pumpkin claimed top prize at Moana Nursery in Reno, RGJ.com reported. Rick Lucas of Lovelock, Nev., grew the monstrous melon.

Star Nursery in Las Vegas built a fence to discourage day laborers from congregating near the store, according to KVBC.com. Some customers told the NBC affiliate that laborers waiting around the property have gotten so aggressive they just avoid going to Star Nursery altogether.

Stewart’s Garden Center in Huntsville has transformed itself from a tiny shop to a 1-acre plus gardening destination,The Huntsville Item reported. Owner Kim Stewart is known throughout the area as “the plant lady.”
