SEEKONK, Mass. — The roof of the garden center at Lowe’s in Seekonk, Mass., collapsed Monday afternoon, but fortunately no one was injured as a result.
The roof collapsed under the weight of the snow at about 3:15 at the store located at 1000 Fall River Avenue.
That part of the store was closed at the time of the collapse and no employees or customers were inside.
A spokesperson for Lowe’s says the collapse only affected the garden center, but the entire store remains closed while the building is inspected.
Seekonk Fire Chief Michael Healy said the incident caused minor water damage inside the store.
“A lot of damage to the actual structure and the products underneath it, there is also water damage inside the store. That will be an assessment for the store to take care of,” he said. “If it had been open and there were shoppers, wed’ be in a much more serious condition than it is right now.”
It was one of many similar incidents to happen in Southern New England this week.
