Target buys Smith & Hawken brand

The mass merchant acquired the brand and intellectual property from Scotts Miracle-Gro Co.

Target has acquired the Smith & Hawken brand and other intellectual property from The Scotts Miracle-Gro Co., Reuters reported. Financial terms were not disclosed.

The retailer already sells Smith & Hawken's outdoor furniture, gardening and decor products through an exclusive line, which has been available at stores since 2006.

"We believe the Smith & Hawken brand complements our existing portfolio of owned brands," Target's executive vice president of merchandising, Kathee Tesija, said in a statement.

Scotts Miracle-Gro Co. closed its 56-store Smith & Hawken retail chain last year.
