As part of Tesselaar Plants’ ongoing commitment to quality and availability, the Australian plant innovator has appointed Color Spot Nurseries Inc. as its newest grower, following the purchase of the business of El Modeno Gardens.
“We’re so excited about being able to make our popular flagship brands like Flower Carpet roses and Tropicanna Cannas – as well as exciting, new introductions like Black Adder Phormium and Tuxedo Ceanothus – accessible to so many more customers in the western and southwestern U.S.,” said company president and co-founder Anthony Tesselaar. “Plus, Color Spot is well known and respected as one of the nation’s leading suppliers, so we’re extremely pleased to have our product in such good hands.”
Color Spot, he noted, supplies more than 2,000 commercial customers and retailers in Texas, California and other western states. Based in Fallbrook, California, Color Spot operates 13 production facilities between California and Texas.
The move is smart for Color Spot, too, said Jerry Halamuda, president and co-founder of that company. “From a supplier’s standpoint, the nice thing is that we don’t need to do the marketing," he said. "It’s already been done – and done excellently – by Tesselaar. Tesselaar’s proprietary products and genetics are excellent, and the way Tesselaar has taken them to market is fabulous.
“Gardeners are very aware of Tesselaar’s plant brands and have had good success with them, so we’ve got an access into the market that’s tried and true. In essence, this allows us to get a product line extension to our existing customers and to reach out to new ones.”
Color Spot Nurseries produces and distributes more than 1,000 types of plants, including bedding plants, potted plants, vegetables, herbs, shrubs, blooming plants, ground covers, floral plants, bulbs and ornamentals. It also provides in-store merchandising, product displays, promotional planning, and product reordering services to its customers.
